After my success at the Portraitiste de France (PDF) in 2021, I decided to challenge myself to participate in photography competitions in 2022. I chose the Portrait Masters competition to enter, as it is a renowned international portrait photography competition organised by world-renowned portrait photographer, Sue Bryce.
The Awards
Among the awards are bronze, silver and gold badges. These awards are not "places" but rather tokens of quality. As with the PDF, a certain score is required to obtain an award with scores between 70 and 79 for a bronze badge, 80 and 89 for a silver badge and 90 and 99 for a gold badge. Due to the incredible score needed to obtain a gold badge, they are very very rare and the judges did not give out any in this edition.
This is the first time I participated in this contest and I was delighted that all the photos I submitted received an award. Here are the results:
Bronze – score 74
This portrait was taken during a maternity shoot with my amazing clients. It was a true collaboration between client and photographer as they were really invested in the process and the mama-to-be had very clear ideas of what she wanted from her portraits.
The couple loved this portrait and I thought it was absolutely sublime so I'm thrilled that the judges liked it too.
Bronze – score 74
Sports portraits have always been a passion of mine and it was a pleasure to create this portrait with my favorite muse. I’m so grateful that the judges deemed this beautiful portrait worthy of an award.
Silver – score 80
I don’t have many naked men come into my studio but I made an exception for this awesome client. This long-time bodybuilder came to see me as he wanted to portraits to showcase the work he had done, over many years, to sculpt his body. Like an artist working with clay, painstakingly worked on his body until it became a work of art. With this in mind, I chose to photograph him as a Greek statue and the result is breathtaking! I was so excited to discover that not only did I receive a silver award for this portrait but it also placed 13th in the "Monochrome" category!
It feels great to be rewarded for the quality of your work, especially when 2 out of 3 portraits come from photo shoots for my clients.
Time to get back to work and create more amazing pieces of art for my clients.
